BBC News Focus on Africa Radio Quiz

Project Brief

For their 60th Anniversary, BBC Africa's Focus on Africa radio wanted to develop a product that would familiarise their fans with their presenters in an engaging way.

User Needs

Many listeners of the Focus on Africa radio program were not familiar with the show's presenters and were eager to know more about them.

My Role

I first redesigned the visual identity of BBC's Focus on Africa radio. This was followed by the design of a clean, simplistic yet modern interactive in line with Focus on Africa’s visual identity attributes, using a style that audiences can easily attribute to their brand.

Design Process

I began by researching the different audio components and current best practices when incorporating sound into an interface. We also considered the different options to cater for accessibility concerns that would arise when using audio clips in the presentation.

Design Solution

We developed an immersive experience for users by including audio clips from the Focus on Africa presenters, creating a stronger connection between the user and the product. Accessibility concerns were overruled by the nature of the content–coming from a radio show where the voice of the presenter was at the centre of the product.

Design deliverables included wireframes and prototypes done in Adobe XD and UI assets.

Findings

We adapted a 'mobile first' design approach to cater for user behaviour and improved functionality and responsivity across different screen sizes.
